Emma Otsu was born on April 1, 2002. She trained at Central Coast Gymnastics Center in California through the 2011 season. She then moved to Brestyan's in Massachusetts. She returned to California and began training at Performance Athletics in the summer of 2015. She will graduate from high school in 2020.

In the fall of 2008, Emma competed level four. She won bars at the Zone Championships. She finished in the top ten at the State Championships. In 2009, she placed first on bars, beam and the all-around at the Zone Championships. She placed fifth all-around at the State Championships. Emma competed one level five meet and one level six meet in October 2010. Emma then moved up to level seven for the 2011 season. She finished in the top fifteen at the State Championships. She made the National TOPs "B" Team. Emma finished in the top ten at the 2012 State Championships. Emma competed level eight in 2013. Emma finished third all-around at the Brestyan Invitational. She placed fourth all-around at the Manhattan Classic and Brestyan's Las Vegas meet. She finished first on beam and seventh all-around at the State Championships. She finished in the top twenty all-around at Regionals.

Emma began competing level nine during the 2013-2014 season. She placed second on vault at the Pilgrim Harvest Invitational. She placed fourth on floor at the Christmas on the Chesapeake meet. She placed fourth on floor at the Starlight Invitational. She finished second on beam and third on floor at the State Championships. At Regionals, she placed second on floor and sixth all-around. She competed at Easterns. During the 2014-2015 season, Emma won bars, beam, floor and the all-around at the Brestyans Invitational. She had the highest level nine all-around score of all age groups. She placed third all-around at the Brestyans Las Vegas meet. Emma finished fifth all-around and second on floor at Regionals. She competed at Easterns.

Emma moved up to level ten in 2016. She finished third on floor at the Charity Choice Invitational and Delta Classic. She placed third on beam at the Heart of a Champion Invitational and Elevate Gym Fest. She placed in the top fifteen at the State Championships. Emma finished 16th all-around at Regionals.
