Danielle Nakayama was born on December 20, 2001. She trained at Yorba Linda Gymnastics Academy through the fall 2010 season. She then moved to Gym-Max. She began training at Wildfire for the 2020 season. She will graduate from high school in 2020.

In the fall of 2010, Danielle competed level four. She finished fourth all-around at the East Sectional. She placed seventh all-around at the State Championships. As a level five in 2011, she finished second all-around at the West Sectional meet. She finished seventh all-around at the State Championships. She moved up to level six in 2012. She placed first on beam and third all-around at the West Sectional meet. She won the all-around at the State Championships.

Danielle immediately competed level seven in 2013. She placed second all-around at the Team OC Classic. She won bars and the all-around at the San Diego Classic. She won floor and the all-around at the Heart of a Champion Invitational. She placed fourth all-around at the California Classic. She finished first on floor and fourth all-around at the State Championships. She finished third all-around at the Region 1 Championships. Danielle moved up to level eight in 2014. She won floor and the all-around at the Team OC Classic. She placed second all-around at the San Diego Classic. She finished first on bars and second all-around at the Long Beach Open. She finished second on vault at the California Classic. She had a strong competition at the State Championships. She finished first all-around at Regionals!

As a level nine in 2015, Danielle placed third all-around at the Team OC Classic She placed second on beam at the San Diego Classic. She finished in the top ten at the Corona Open. She qualified for Regionals. Danielle did not compete in 2016. She moved up to level ten for the 2017 season. She competed at the World Elite Classic, placing third on beam, fourth on bars and fourth all-around. She missed significant amount of competitions from 2016 to 2018 due to Osgood Schlatter in her knee but returned for the 2019 season. She competed on two events at the State Championships.
