Kaitlyn Gilson was born on November 8, 1999. She trained at Hudson School of Gymnastics in Wisconsin through the 2011 season. She then moved to Twin City Twisters. She will graduate from high school in 2018.

In the fall of 2008, Kaitlyn competed level five. She won beam at the State Championships. She placed fourth all-around. She competed level six in 2009. She finished third all-around at the Northern Lights Invitational. Kaitlyn competed level seven in 2010. She finished third on vault at the Gopher Invite. She finished fourth all-around at the State Championships. In 2011, she competed level eight. She finished third on floor at the Wisconsin Dells Vacation Classic. She placed in the top ten at the State Championships. She competed at Regionals. In 2012, Kaitlyn finished second all-around at the IGI Chicago Style. She finished first on bars and third all-around at the Twisted Moose meet. She won bars and beam at the Northern Lights Invitational. She won floor at the Rising Stars Invitational. At the State Championships, she placed second on bars, third on floor and fifth all-around. Kaitlyn won beam, floor and the all-around at Regionals.

Kaitlyn competed level nine in 2013. She finished second on beam and fifth all-around at the IGI Chicago Style. She placed third on floor at the Northern Lights Invitational. She placed second on bars, fourth on beam, sixth on floor and eighth all-around at the State Championships. She finished fourth on beam, seventh on floor and sixth all-around at Regionals. At Westerns, she placed fifth on bars and 17th all-around. Kaitlyn competed level nine again in 2014, winning first place all-around titles at the Gopher Invite, IGI Chicago Style and City of Lights meets. She also won first place on bars at in Event Finals for bars at the Northern Lights meet and scored the highest beam score of any level nine gymnast at IGI Chicago Style with a 9.7. In post season competition, Kaitlyn took first place on bars, second on beam and third on floor at State. She took first place on bars and beam at Regionals and finished third in the all-around. She capped off a tremendous season by winning the national title with first places on both bars and beam at Westerns where she also placed second in the all-around competition in the most competitive age group in the field.

Kaitlyn moved up to level ten in 2015. She placed second on bars at the Hilton Head Island Invitational. She won beam at the Twisted Moose meet. She placed in the top ten at the State Championships. Kaitlyn won beam and placed fourth all-around at Regionals. She finished eighth on beam at JO Nationals. In 2016, Kaitlyn finished third on beam at the Fiesta Bowl Invitational. She won beam at the IGI Chicago Style. Kaitlyn placed third on floor at the Northern Lights Classic. She placed sixth all-around at the State Championships. She finished first on beam, third on floor and fourth all-around at Regionals. She competed at JO Nationals.
